UMR STLO on the INRAE stand at the International Agricultural Show
24 February-3 March 2024
UMR STLO will be present on the INRAE stand at the International Agricultural Show, dedicated to field research for life-size solutions. At the innovation area, from 26 to 28 February, scientists from the unit will be presenting new products based on nuts and legumes grown in the Mediterranean area and developed as part of the LOCALNUTLEG project. This is an opportunity to get feedback from consumers on these innovative food products, rich in plant proteins.
The European LOCALNUTLEG project aims to promote local Mediterranean nuts and legumes with a legal trademark: Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) or indigenous identity through the development of innovative food products. The aim is to identify local varieties of nuts and legumes linked to Mediterranean gastronomic cultures, providing alternative proteins and a maximum quantity of nutrients and bioactive compounds. They will then be exploited in the context of Mediterranean diets. Various products are being developed, similar to fermented dairy products, pasta, traditional ready-to-eat dishes and spreads. Qualitative and quantitative studies are being carried out in the participating EU countries (Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany and France) and in non-EU countries (Israel, Turkey and Morocco) to determine consumer acceptance of the products developed.
The LOCALNUTLEG project is led by Ingrid Aguilo from IRTA, the Spanish Research and Technology Institute, and brings together 20 partners, including UMR STLO. It began in May 2021 and is due to end in October 2024. More information on the project website
